JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Blazers played host to the Covenant College Scots on Saturday morning inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium, and the Blazers came away with their third home shutout on the pitch with a 2-0 victory.
The Blazers first goal came mid-way through the first half in the 22nd minute as freshman midfielder
Sybil Roberson stole the ball from a Scots defender deep in the Blazers attacking zone and then found the back of the net as she scorched a ball past the Scots goalkeeper giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
The second goal for the Blazers came in the 73rd minute as senior forward
Peyton Papenburg broke away from the Scots defenders on a Blazers counter attack. Papenburg then dribbled past the Scots goalkeeper who came out of the net to attempt to stop the Blazers attack, finding the back of the net to increase the lead to 2-0, and secure the Blazers victory.
The Blazers improve to 4-2 on the season and will return to action on Thursday, September 19, on the road against the Mississippi University for Women. The match is set to kickoff at 5 p.m.
