JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Blazers volleyball team fell to the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets in their first American Southwest Conference match of the season on Friday. Belhaven picked up the 3rd set in what would end a 3-1 match in favor of LeTourneau.
After jumping out to an early lead in the first set, the Blazers were unable to stop a LeTourneau surge and the set ended 25-11 for the visitors. The Yellow Jackets continued their momentum in the second set and were able to hold off the Blazers late push to win the set 25-18. Belhaven rallied in a crucial third set that saw both teams with opportunities to win picking up a 29-27 set victory. Despite a late push in the fourth and final set that saw them score four straight points, Belhaven dropped the final set 25-20 to decide the match.
The Blazers were led in attack by
Callista Moore who racked up a team high 12 kills. Freshman
Faith Stone followed Moore closely with nine kills of her own. Sophomore
Grace Laukhuf posted a team high 18 assists and
Grace Eidson had 12 assists in the match.Â
Evelyn Parker and
Vivien Marquez led by example in defense with four blocks each. Four Blazers found themselves with double digit digs led by
Callista Moore with 14 digs.
Grace Laukhuf had 12 digs,
Sydney McEachern had 11 and
Grace Eidson rounded out that group with 10 digs.
LeTourneau was led by Kianna Crow who posted 15 kills. Cameron Taylor topped the Yellow Jackets with 26 digs on the night.Â
Belhaven falls to 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference with the loss but will have a quick opportunity to bounce back as they host UT Dallas on Saturday at 1 PM in Rugg Arena.Â
