JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Blazers played host to the Pensacola Christian College Eagles on Thursday night in the Belhaven Bowl Stadium and the Blazers remained undefeated on the season with a 3-2 victory.
The Blazers got on the board first in the 23rd minute as sophomore midfielder
Andres Garcia found the back of the net with an assist from junior forward
Brendan Koehn. The Eagles tied the game in the 36th minute as Jake McClelland managed to get the ball to just squeeze under freshman goalkeeper
Max Rudolph's arms and the score remained tied at the half.
The Blazers regained the lead in the 55th minute as senior forward
Max Maguire converted a penalty kick awarded after Koehn was fouled by an Eagles defender inside the attacking box. The Eagles once again knotted up the game as Nick Standridge chipped the ball over an outstretched Rudoplh in the 85th minute with an assist from Paul Stewart.
However, the Blazers would not be denied victory tonight as senior midfielder
Nathan Ratzlaff lobbed a free kick into the attacking box for the Blazers and then freshman defender
Lex Rogers headed the ball into the goal as the final buzzer sounded giving the Blazers the 3-2 win.
The Blazers improve to 3-0 on the season and will return to action this Saturday as they host cross-town rival Millsaps College. The match is set for a 2 p.m., kickoff inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
