JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven women's soccer team suffered a 3-2 double overtime loss to Centenary College Saturday evening inside the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
Emilee Byrd gave the Ladies the early 1-0 advantage in the 6th minute. Byrd's goal was assisted by Migui Boldrin.
Betzabet Bravo found the back of the net in the 11
thminute to give the Ladies the 2-0 lead over the Blazers.
Just before the half,
Ashley Langham netted her first goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. The score remained the same going into the halftime break.
Both teams went back and forth exchanging shots, until
Peyton Papenburg broke away in the 77
thminute to level the game at 2-2.
The Blazers held strong for the rest of the second half to force overtime play. In the first overtime, the Green and Gold and Ladies each had chances to score, but could not find the back of the net.
With neither team able to break the tie through the first 100 minutes of play, the game headed to double overtime.
Midway through the double overtime period, the Ladies found the back of the net to give Centenary the 3-2 victory over the Blazers.
Ashley Langham led the Green and Gold with one goal and four shots with two being on-goal.
Peyton Papenburg also had a goal and took three shots, while
Suzanne Dease registered a shot in the match.
Goalkeeper
Georgia Jordan played the entire contest and had five saves.
As a team, the Blazers had eight shots with three being on-goal and two assists.
The Blazers will return to the field on Wednesday, September 4 against Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
