JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team got off to a strong start to their regular season on Saturday with an impressive 4-1 win over LaGrange College at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
The Blazers found themselves in an early hole after Panthers' midfielder, Andrew Valbuena's left-footed, left-sided shot made it over a leaping
Max Rudolph and nestled into the far-side netting just nine minutes into the match. Belhaven answered back quickly as Freshman
Jake Estes had his strike from outside the box hit the bottom of the crossbar and cross over the goal line equalizing the match just three minutes later.Â
Belhaven would take the lead in the 15th minute when a Blazers' corner found its way to the feet of
James Dempsey after taking a couple of deflections. In the 30th minute the Blazers would add to their lead as a breakaway would find Belhaven two-on-one with the Panthers' goalkeeper. Junior
Brendan Koehn was able to skip past the goalkeeper and slot the ball into the net giving Belhaven a 3-1 lead that they would maintain until the half.
In the 66th minute Senior
Max Maguire would score the fourth Blazers' goal of the night catching the LaGrange goalkeeper off his line and out of position. Maguire's goal would cap off a solid night for Belhaven that would see them outshoot LaGrange 18-6 and 9-2 in shots on goal.Â
The Blazers will be back in action next Friday, September 6th as they host Hendrix College at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
