GREENVILLE, S.C. – Belhaven University's softball players
Allie Gordon and
Marlee Blackwell were named National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-Americans on Wednesday afternoon.
"It's great to see the recognition continue to pile up for this duo. As team leaders in every offensive category, Allie and Marlee really made us tough to handle at the top of our lineup," said Head Softball Coach
Kevin Griffin.
Allie Gordon is a year removed from being named the Georgia High School Player of the Year and now a First-Team All-American to go along with the NCCAA Mideast Region Player of the year. The Macon, Ga. native finished her freshman season leading the Green and Gold in multiple categories on the offensive side of the ball. She led the Blazers in batting average (.378), slugging percentage (.551), homeruns (5), RBI (25) and an on-base percentage of .433.
Marlee Blackwell earned NCCAA All-American honors on the third-team. The Louin, Miss. native has already collected multiple awards this postseason including: American Southwest Conference First Team All-Conference team, ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, NCCAA Mideast All-Region Team, and now a NCCAA Third-Team All-American. The junior concluded her stellar season with a .375 batting average, three homeruns, a team-high 11 doubles, 14 RBI, and had a .547 slugging percentage.
Coach Griffin stated, "Our program is poised to be very successful moving into our first full year of competition in the American Southwest Conference and NCAA Division 3. Allie and Marlee will be instrumental in whether or not we live up to those expectations. We have a great recruiting class coming in to add to our returning talent and these girls will need to be our glue from a leadership standpoint. I'm proud that they have chosen Belhaven University and look forward to seeing what their futures hold. The Lord has greatly blessed us with players like them over the years and I'm fortunate to be around them every day for ten months out of the year!"
