THE RUNDOWN
MACON, Ga. – The Belhaven University softball team split a doubleheader on Monday with Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia with a 2-0 loss in game one and an 8-0 win in game two.
Wesleyan College notched runs in the third and fifth innings of game one as they were able to hold the Blazers to zero runs on nine hits to claim game one.
Brister Curry and Bailey Root led Belhaven at the plate with two hits apiece.
Game two was a different story for Belhaven as they scored one run in the third inning off of a single from Danielle Darmohray that plated Marlee Blackwell for a 1-0 lead.
Belhaven extended its lead in the fifth inning with six runs on six hits, including a two-run home run from Allie Gordon which set the pace for the inning as Belhaven followed her at-bat with an RBI double from Brister Curry and RBI singles from Carry Ingle and Anna Peyton Montes to take a 7-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Marissa Rice drove in the eighth run of the game with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Bailey Root.
Belhaven went on to dominate WC by a final score of 8-0 to split the doubleheader and improve to 15-19 overall on the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
As a team, the Blazers finished with a total of 24 hits in both games combined, including 15 hits in the 8-0 win in game two.
Allie Gordon and Bailey Root had three hits apiece in game two including a two-run home run from Gordon in the fifth inning of play. Root had five hits on the afternoon and two runs scored in game two.
Marlee Blackwell, Brister Curry, and Carly Ingle had two hits in game two with Curry finishing with four hits on the day.
Bailey Root picked up the win in game two, going 6.0 innings while allowing only one hit, six walks, no runs, and striking out five opposing hitters.

The Blazers will return to the field on Thursday for a doubleheader matchup versus Mary Hardin-Baylor at 2:00 p.m. at Jim McLeod Field.
