Blazers Drop Two Games On the Road at Concordia

THE RUNDOWN

AUSTIN, Texas – The Belhaven University baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader to the Concordia University Texas Tornados in American Southwest Conference play. The first game the Blazers were defeated 3-2, before falling in game two by a final score of 7-0.

Concordia struck first in the bottom of the first inning to take the quick 1-0 lead.

Yet, the Blazers pieced together a pair of hits in the top of the second with the help of a Logan Walters double, a Steven Liuzza single to right center field, and a sac hit from Nathan Herron to push the tying run across the board.

Belhaven and the Concordia University Tornados maintained a tie score of 1-1 at the end of two innings.

The Blazers continued to swing the bat effectively in the third inning, notching the teams fourth hit on a Trip Benson double to the right corner wall to plate Tucker Calhoun. Bensons RBI gave Belhaven a 2-1 lead.

Concordia took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two unearned runs to regain the 3-2 lead. Belhaven was unable to score any runs in the top half of the seventh-inning, falling to the Tornados by final score of 3-2.

In game two, the Blazers struggled to put runs on the board as CTX held BU to a two-hitter.

Concordia started the scoring party for the Green and Gold when Cox doubled to left field to score Dixon, giving the Tornados a 1-0 advantage. CTX scored two additional runs in the top of the third inning to make the score 3-0 after three full innings.

The score remained tied for the next three innings. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Leiferman drilled a two-run RBI single to right field to extend the lead to 5-0.

Still in the seventh inning, the Tornados scored two more times after a bases loaded walk and a fielder's choice bringing the score to 7-0.

The Blazers could not overcome the deficit as they fell 7-0 in game two of the doubleheader.
