JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of the University of the Ozarks Eagles Friday afternoon at Jim McLeod Field. Belhaven defeated the Ozarks 6-4 in game one before claiming the 7-6 victory in game two.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Eagles struck first in the opening inning when Reiber grounded out to third base to score Cantu to take the early 1-0 advantage over the Blazers.
Brianna Dollar drove in the first run for the Green and Gold, scoring
Marlee Blackwell off of a single to center field to tie the game up at one apiece.
The score remained tied in the second inning. In the bottom half of the third inning,
Brianna Dollar drove a double to right field to score
Marlee Blackwell and
Allie Gordon, giving the Blazers the 3-1 lead.
Elizabeth Platt came into the game to pinch run for Dollar and scored by way of a RBI single from
Anna Peyton Montesi, as the Green and Gold extended the lead to 4-1.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Ozarks trimmed the lead to 4-2 after Key scored off of an error. The Blazers scored two additional runs in the bottom half of the inning after
Danielle Darmohray drilled a double down the left field line to score shortstop
Bailey Root.
Meghan Luker came in to pinch run for Darmohray and scored on a single from Dollar giving the Blazers a 6-2 advantage.
The Eagles had two runs come across the plate in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-4. The Blazers' defense held strong and did not let the Ozarks score for the rest of the game, making the final score 6-4 to even the series to 1-1.
The Blazers got going quickly early in the bottom of the first inning. With runners on first and second,
Allie Gordon reach on a error by the second baseman to bring home
Marlee Blackwell scoring the first run of game two of the double header.
Moments later,
Marissa Rice hit an RBI single to left field to score
Allie Gordon to make the score 2-0. Still in the first inning,
Anna Peyton Montesi drove in two additional runs to give the Green and Gold the commanding 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning, the Eagles got one run across when Lee singled to second base to score Martin. Then Key drilled a three-run homer to left field to bring the score to 4-4.
The Green and Gold took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Baliey Root singled to score
Marlee Blackwell to take the 5-4 advantage.
In the top of the sixth inning, Bryant homered to tie the ballgame up at 5-5. With runners on second and third, the Ozarks took the 6-5 lead when Jasna scored on a passed ball.

Brister Curry to even the score at 6-6.
Danielle Darmohray came up huge for Belhaven when she singled through the left side to score Baliey Root giving the Green and Gold the slight 7-6 advantage.
The Blazers played stellar defense in the top of the seven inning to earn the 7-6 double header sweep over the Ozarks in game two.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Brianna Dollar led the Blazers going 3-for-4 from the plate and had 4 RBI in game one of the double header.
Danielle Darmohray and
Anna Peyton Montesi had the other two RBI in the contest.
As a team, the Blazers had seven hits in the game one win over the Ozarks.
Marlee Blackwell led the Blazers in game two of the doubleheader going 3-for-4 from the plate and scored two runs.
Bailey Root and
Danielle Darmohray each tallied two his in the contest.
Brianna Dollar,
Marissa Rice and
Anna Peyton Montesi had the other three hits for the Green and Gold.
As a team, the Blazers finished game two with 10 hits on 28 at bats.
Mariah Sosa earned her first win of the season after she came in the game to relieve
Jordan Self, while
Kassie Shipley earned the save in the game.
UP NEXT
The Blazers will return to the field for a doubleheader on Friday, March 15 in Longview, Texas to take on ASC opponent LeTourneau University. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4:00 p.m.
