THE RUNDOWN
LONGVIEW, Texas– The Belhaven University softball team fell in their series opener at LeTourneau University by a final score of 9-1 in six innings on Friday evening in American Southwest Conference play.
LeTourneau scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning off of an error to take the early 2-0 advantage.
The Blazers scored their only run of the contest in the top of the third inning, when
Brianna Dollar singled to the pitcher to score
Bailey Root to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Yellowjackets offense erupted in bottom of the third inning, scoring four runs on five hits to take the 6-1 lead.
The score remained tied during the fourth and fifth inning, but LETU added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the score to 9-1.
LeTouneau would take the first game of the series by a final score of 9-1 in six innings.

"We had some good at-bats tonight, but just need to find a big hit with runners in scoring position. LeTourneau is a good team and we made some mistakes defensively that hurt us."

Allie Gordon led the Green and Gold going 2-for-3 from the plate.
Bailey Root scored the only run of the game, while
Brianna Dollar earned the RBI.
Marissa Rice and
Brittany Chetta tallied a hit on the night.
Bailey Root started in the circle and gave up seven hits, but had five strikeouts on the evening.

The Blazers will conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Longview, Texas.
