THE RUNDOWN
JACKSON, Miss- The Belhaven University softball team fell to the University of the Ozarks on Thursday evening by a final score of 4-0 in game one of a three game series.
The Ozarks struck first in the top half of the first inning, after a single from Taylor Teague scored Kieara Bryant to give the Eagles the quick 1-0 lead.
The Eagles then added three more runs in the top of the second inning, pushing their lead to 4-0 after two complete innings.
The Blazers were able to put runners on board, but were unsuccessful with moving the baserunners up, as the Ozarks held onto the 4-0 advantage to preserve the win in game one of the series.
With the loss the Blazers fell to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in ASC play.
COMMENTS BY HEAD COACH KEVIN GRIFFIN ON THE LOSS
"We still struggle to get big hits with runners in scoring position. I think that we overthink things when we get in the box and everyone needs to just relax and have fun at the plate."
"Our pitchers did a great job tonight. After the first few innings they settled in and threw well."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Marlee Blackwell led the Blazers with two hits in the contest.
Brianna Dollar,
Carley Ingle,
Marissa Rice, and
Meghan Luker each tallied one hit on the night.
Meghan Luker hit a double in her first career plate appearance as a Blazer.
Belhaven had a total of six hits in the contest as a team.
UP NEXT
Belhaven will return to the Jim McLeod Field tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader matchup between the Blazers and the Ozarks. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with game two expected to begin around 3:00 p.m.
