ABILENE, Texas– The Belhaven University baseball team fell to Hardin-Simmons on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 13-6 in American Southwest Conference play.
Belhaven trailed early in the game but a Hunter White double and Gasper D'Anna single in the top of the second inning gave Belhaven a 2-1 over the Cowboys after two inning
Hardin-Simmons scored three runs combined in the third and fifth inning to retake a 4-2 lead, before Belhaven once again tied the score up at 4-4 with the help of two RBI singles from Trip Benson and Logan Walters in the sixth inning.
However, the Cowboys put up a seven spot in the bottom half of the sixth inning to take a commanding 11-4 lead.
Belhaven managed to score two unanswered runs over the course of the final three innings, yet it was not enough to pull off a come from behind upset as the Blazers fell to the Cowboys by a final score of 13-6 in the final game of the series.
With the loss, Belhaven fell to 9-19 overall and 2-13 in ASC play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Belhaven finished with 12 hits as a team in the contest.
Trip Benson led the way with two hits in the game. Benson finished 2-for-2 with a run batted in.
Noah Holmes, Logan Walters, Hunter White, and Gasper D'Anna each collected a hit in the game. Holmes and White had one double.
UP NEXT
The Blazers will return home for a midweek matchup this Wednesday, April 3, against the Huntingdon College Hawks. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
