THE RUNDOWN
MARSHALL, Texas-The Belhaven University baseball team fell to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers on Saturday by a final score of 9-3.
After two comeback victories in games one and two of the series, the Tigers of East Texas Baptist were able to shut the door on the Blazers Saturday, quickly jumping out to a 9-0 lead with four runs scored in the fifth, four in the seventh, and one in the eighth inning.
Belhaven ruined the Tigers opportunity for a shutout as Nathan Weatherly went yard off of the Tigers pitcher, Call Florence, in the top half of the ninth inning, with runners on first and second to cut the lead to 9-3.
Unfortunately, Florence was able to stop the Blazers potential ninth inning comeback to help give ETBU the 9-3 win on Saturday.
The Tigers ultimately swept the Blazers over the weekend as Belhaven fell to 8-16 overall and 1-11 in the conference. ETBU improved to 17-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
