THE RUNDOWN
JACKSON, Miss.-The Belhaven University baseball team stumbled on Tuesday afternoon against the Rhodes College Lynx by a final score of 12-2 in non-conference play.
The Lynx struck first in the top half of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead, yet the Blazers answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Evan Moore began the inning with a single to left field for the Blazers before reaching second on a stolen base. Moore eventually came around to score from a single to left field from Nick Lucido in which Moore's run tied the game up at 1-1.
Lucido scored moments later on an error by the third baseman to give Belhaven a 2-1 lead.
The Lynx utilized a three-run home run in the third inning to regain the lead 4-2, before scoring an additional eight more runs over the remaining innings of the contest to defeat the Blazers by a final score of 12-2.
With the loss, Belhaven fell to 8-17 overall. The Lynx of Rhodes College improved to 13-12. The two will meet again on April 11 in Memphis, Tenn., for the second and final game of the series.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Evan Moore led Belhaven with two hits in the game. He also scored one of two runs for Belhaven. Nick Lucido had the only other run for the Green and Gold, as he finished 1-for-4, with a run batted in, and a run scored.
Josh Rogers, Hunter White, Justin Milam, and Logan Walters all had one hit apiece. Walters had one double in the game.
Belhaven had a total of seven hits in the game.
UP NEXT
The Blazers will return to the field on Friday, March 29, for a doubleheader game against the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys in Abilene, Texas. Game one will begin at 3:00 p.m.
