RICHARDSON, Texas-The Belhaven University softball team was defeated by the UT Dallas Comets on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 16-6 in conference play.
It did not take long for the Blazers to strike as the Green and Gold got on the board first in the top half of the first inning with the help of a Danielle Darmohray single to centerfield that scored Bailey Root, giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
In the same inning, two bases-loaded walks to Brister Curry and Marissa Rice allowed the Blazers to increase its lead to 3-0.
UT Dallas quickly erased the Blazers three-run lead with a pair of home runs to take a 7-3 lead after one inning of play. The Comets extended its lead to 10-3 in the fourth inning before Belhaven's Brister Curry homered to right centerfield to cut the Comet lead to 10-5.
Marissa Rice eventually scored on a ground ball to second base from Bailey Root in the fifth inning. Belhaven trailed 10-6 after the top half of the fifth inning.
The Comets hit their second grand slam of the afternoon, along with another home run in the bottom half of the fifth inning, to take a 16-6 lead and claim the win over the Blazers to earn the series win.
With the loss, Belhaven falls to 4-9 overall and 2-7 in ASC play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Danielle Darmohray, Allie Gordon, and Marissa Rice each collected two hits in game three. Darmohray, Rice, and Bailey Root had one RBI apiece.
Brister Curry finished the game with one hit which cleared the fence for her first home run of the season. Curry also led Belhaven with three RBI's.
Belhaven had a total of nine hits in the contest as a team.
UP NEXT
Belhaven will return to the field this Friday for a matchup versus the University of the Ozarks at Jim McLeod Field. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.
