Belhaven Drops Doubleheader with Louisiana College at Home

THE RUNDOWN

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University baseball lost both games of a doubleheader against Louisiana College Friday afternoon at Smith Wills Stadium. The Blazers were tripped up in game one 4-1 and lost game two 12-3.

In game one, LC struck first when Noakes hit an RBI-single to left field to score Atkins to take an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning.

Neither team could get anything going in the second inning, as the score remained 1-0.

The Wildcats added two runs in the top of the third inning after Delgado was hit by pitch, followed by a two-run shot over the left field wall to make the score 3-0 through three innings of play.

Trip Benson got things rolling for the Green and Gold after hitting an infield single to score Justin Milam from third base bringing the score to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the fifth and sixth inning the score remained 3-1, until LC tacked on another run in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-1 lead over the Blazers. 

The Green and Gold could not rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and would fall 4-1 in game one of the doubleheader.

In game two, AJ Bratton reached first base on a fielder's choice and Nick Lucido plated the first run for the Blazers off of an error by the pitcher to give BU the 1-0 lead.

Still in the second inning, Julyan Urena and Evan Moore had back-to-back RBI singles to push the lead to 3-0.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 3-2 after an RBI-double from Noakes and an RBI-single from Delgado in the top of the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Wildcats scored two additional run when Atkins scored two runs off of a double to gain the 4-3 lead over the Blazers.

In the fifth and sixth inning, neither team could plate a run, as the score remained 4-3 with the Wildcats holding the slight advantage.

LC bats exploded in the top of the seventh inning with six runs on eight hits to extend the lead to 10-3, going into the seventh inning stretch.

The Wildcats posted two more runs in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 12-3.

The Blazers could not get anything going for the rest of the game, as the Wildcats clinched the series with a final score of 12-3 in game two.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

In game one, Justin Milam and Trip Benson went 2-for-3 from the plate and Milam scored the only run in the contest for the Green and Gold.

Logan Walters and Hunter White had the other two hits for the Blazers in game one.

Hunter Sanford took the loss on the mound tonight going six innings and three strikeouts.

In game two, Julyan Urena led the Blazers going 3-for-3 from the plate, had an RBI and scored a run.

Nick Lucido and AJ Bratton were the other two Blazers to cross the plate in game two. Additionally, Lucido had two hits in the contest.

David Hall took the loss on the mound going 4.2 innings, but had nine strikeouts and four hits in the game.

UP NEXT

The Blazers will return to the field tomorrow, March 16thfor the final game of the series at 12:00 p.m. at Smith Wills Stadium.
