THE RUNDOWN
The Belhaven University baseball team defeated the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers by a final score of 7-1 at Smith Wills Stadium on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.
After back-to-back doubles by
Evan Moore and
Tucker Calhoun, the Blazers took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning. Calhoun took third on a stolen base as
Trip Benson had an RBI groundout to make the score 2-0. Still in the first inning,
Logan Walters doubled to right center, stole third base, and eventually would score on a passed ball to bring the score to 3-0 after one complete inning.
The score remained tied in the second inning. Iowa Wesleyan scored a run off of a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of third inning.
Steven Liuzza hit an RBI groundout and scored
Nick Lucido to give the Blazers the 4-1 advantage over the Tigers after four full innings.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Blazers tacked on two additional runs off of a Sacrifice Fly from
Steven Liuzza and a
Julyan Urena RBI-double to score
Nick Lucido to bring the score to 6-1.
After the seventh inning stretch, the Blazers extended their lead to 7-1 when
Logan Walters brought home
Justin Milam off of a single to center field.
The score halted for the rest of the ballgame, as Belhaven defeated Iowa Wesleyan by a final score of 7-1 in non-conference action.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Belhaven finished with 13 hits on the afternoon, improving to 7-10 on the season.
- The Blazers finished the game with a season-high six doubles. The players who hit the doubles are as followed:

Logan Walters led the Green and Gold going 3-for-4 from the plate, scored a run, and had a stolen base.

Kyle Whittington went five strong innings, had nine strikeouts, one hit, and allowed only one run.
