THE RUNDOWN

RICHARDSON, Texas-The Belhaven University softball team split Friday afternoon's double header versus the University of Texas at Dallas, defeating the Comets in game one by a final of 4-3 before falling in game two 9-1.

In game one of the doubleheader, the Blazers got things rolling early with the help of a three-run home run from Danielle Darmohray to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

In the bottom half of the first, the Comets showed they had home run power as well, hitting a two-run home run to cut the Blazer lead to 3-2.

UT Dallas tied the game up in the third inning with a sac bunt RBI. Yet the Blazers answered in the top of the sixth inning with Danielle Darmohray doubling to left field, scoring Allie Gordon to put the Green and Gold ahead 4-3.

The RBI was Darmohray's fourth of the ball game. The Blazers escaped game one of the doubleheader with a 4-3 victory.

In game two, Belhaven struck first with an RBI single to right center field from Allie Gordon, scoring Marlee Blackwell to put the Blazers ahead 1-0.

However, the Comets responded with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the second inning, to go ahead 2-1 over the Green and Gold.

UT Dallas went on to score a total of nine unanswered runs in game two of Friday's doubleheader, winning by a final score of 9-1 to split Friday's contests.

With the split, Belhaven improved to 4-8 overall on the season.

BU Head Coach Kevin Griffin Comments on Friday's Split

"It's always good when you can get a split on the road in this conference!  Giving ourselves an opportunity to win the series tomorrow is exactly the situation we need to embrace. Dani Darmohray stepped up big for us in game one with a monster day at the plate.  She made a great play defensively as well that saved us.  I'm very proud of Anna Peyton Montesi. The girl works harder than anyone and arguably the biggest play of the day was when she threw a runner out at second trying to tag up on a fly ball. Today was definitely a step in the right direction".
