Blazers Fall in Series Finale to ETBU

THE RUNDOWN

MARSHALL, Texas-The Belhaven University Blazers (3-5) softball team took on the East Texas Baptist University Tigers on Monday afternoon, following a Sunday off from competition against the American Southwest Conference foe.

The Tigers (11-0) entered Monday's contest as arguably the top ranked team in the American Southwest Conference with an undefeated record overall.

The banged up Blazers were unable to generate any offense and had a tough time defensively against the ETBU Tigers, as the Green and Gold fell by a final score of 8-0 in the series finale.

The Blazers to this point of the season have been decimated by injuries, after losing starting shortstop Abby Mondy over a week ago, as well as presumed starters Sarah Depperschmidt and Averi Pender before the start of the season.

The Blazers have had to battle through a lot of adversity through the first half of this early 2019 season, yet continue to persevere and grow with each rep.

Belhaven will hit the field once again tomorrow evening versus the Jackson State University Tigers, a team the Blazers swept in the first week of the season by scores of 4-3 and 5-4. Belhaven currently sits at 3-5 overall on the season.

BU Head Coach Kevin Griffin Comments on the Overall Performance Monday

"Without sugar-coating anything, this was a bad weekend for our team.  We didn't make adjustments at the plate and defensively we didn't make some routine plays that could have changed the dynamic of the final score.  With all of that, the bottom line is that we didn't hit like we are capable and really need a bounce back quickly tomorrow."

BU Head Coach Kevin Griffin Comments on the Pitchers

"I thought our pitching staff did a good job.  Bailey Root and Kassie Shipley gave us great starts, but our pitchers can't go out to the circle every game feeling like they have to carry the load."
