MARSHALL, Texas– The Belhaven University softball team faltered twice on Saturday afternoon at East Texas Baptist University to open American Southwest Conference road play.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Tigers got things started in the bottom of the first inning after a run scored off of an error to make the score 1-0.
Danielle Darmohray had the only hit for the Blazers in the game, which took place in the top of the second inning. The Green and Gold held ETBU scoreless in the bottom of the second inning. After a double to left center from Salts, Landa came around to plate the second run for the Tigers in the bottom of the third. ETBU added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 5-0 advantage over the Blazers. After a three-up three-down fifth inning, the Tigers scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, bringing the final score to 8-0 in game one.
The Tigers struck first in game two off of a single to left center, scoring Garcia to take the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams did not score any runs in the second inning, but ETBU crossed the plate twice in the third to bring the score to 3-0. The Tigers extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom half of the fourth inning, after the Blazers gave up two runs on one hit and one error. The Blazers' defense held strong for the rest of the game, but could not get the bats going in the 5-0 loss to the Tigers.
With the losses, the Blazers fell to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Danielle Darmohray tallied the only hit in game one of the doubleheader and
Bailey Root took the loss in the circle for the Blazers.
In game two,
Allie Gordon tallied two hits and
Marlee Blackwell had a hit for the only three hits in the contest.
Bailey Root,
Brianna Dollar, and
Brister Curry each earned a walk in the final game of the doubleheader.
Kassie Shipley took the loss in the circle for the Green and Gold.

Belhaven and East Texas Baptist will finish the series on Monday, February 25 in Marshall, Texas on the campus of ETBU. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
