JACKSON, Miss - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team picked up their 6th win of the season knocking off Millsaps 83-66 on the road.
The Blazers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter outscoring the Lady Majors 13-6 in the final 6:38 to give them a 26-13 advantage at the end of the first period. Belhaven maintained that lead throughout the first half and led 42-29 at the halfway point.
In the third quarter, the home team rallied back putting together a 17-0 run across six minutes to tie the game. The Blazers were able to hit a late three in the third quarter to take a 53-50 lead into the final period. In the fourth, Belhaven was able to pull away from Millsaps once again outscoring the home team 30-16 in the final frame including going 11-14 from the free throw line.
On the night, the Blazers forced 37 turnovers, the fourth time season they have forced 30 or more turnovers and maintaining their season-long streak of forcing 25 or more. Turnovers proved influential in the game as Belhaven was able to turn the takeaways in 39 points. The Blazers outscored Millsaps 54-38 inside the paint and 14-2 in fastbreak points.
Belhaven was led by
Janae Collier who scored a career-high 20 points on 5-10 shooting from three.
Peyton Papenburg finished with 18 points on the night going 9-11 from the free throw line.
Mariah Collins continued to fill up the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and six steals in 32 minutes.
With the win, Belhaven improves to 6-1 on the season. They return to action December 16th when they face Centre College in Atlanta, Georgia with a 4 PM tip off.
