JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team picked up a home win over Mississippi University for Women on Tuesday, a 95-86 finish.
The Blazers were able to jump out to an early lead in the contest and took a 50-35 lead into the half thanks to a 40% three-point percentage. Belhaven also out-rebounded the Owls 25-12 in the first period.
Belhaven kept up the momentum in the second half and maintained a lead for 39:19 of the the 40 minute contest. A late run from MUW closed the gap but the Blazers were able to hold off the visitors.
On the day, Belhaven shot 48.3% from the field and 38.5% from behind the arc. For the second straight game, Belhaven finished above 93% from the free throw line. The Blazers finished with 22 assists as a team, tied for their second highest total this season.
Rick Hodum led the team in scoring with 19 points, a personal season-high.
Luke Couch finished with 17 points, five assists and four rebounds. Senior
Trai James filled the stat sheet for Belhaven with eight points, seven assists and ten rebounds.
With the win, Belhaven moves to 2-5 on the season and will look to build on the victory when they host Covenant College on December 28th. The game at Rugg Arena is set for 7 PM.
