JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven football team knocked off the Lobos of Sul Ross State 25-6 on Senior Day and Homecoming.
In the final home game of the season, the Blazers got off to a quick scoring start after Belhaven was able to recover a fumbled punt return at the Sul Ross 36-yard line. Belhaven would walk away with a field goal from the good field position. Belhaven would score their first touchdown of the game when
Hunter McEachern hit
LaMarcus Caradine across the middle for a 56-yard score with 3:28 left in the first quarter. The Blazers would look to add a two-point conversion but were unable to convert. A short punt by the Lobos gave the Blazers good field position with 2:25 left in the quarter and
Brad Foley would cap off a 58-yard drive with a rushing touchdown from 5-yards out.
Leading 16-0 in the second quarter, the Blazers would add to their lead through a 22-yard field goal from
Cade Ganey. Belhaven took a 19-0 lead into the half.
Belhaven would extend their lead in the third quarter when
Mayowa Asagunla hit
Nick Lauderdale for a 34-yard touchdown. The Blazers would miss the extra point but lead 25-0 at the end of the third quarter.
The Lobos would get their lone score of the day with 12:56 left in the game on a 5-yard touchdown run. The Blazers blocked the extra point making the it a 25-6 final.
The Blazers were led on the day by
Hunter McEachern who went 9-16 for 118 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. McEachern also led Belhaven in the rushing attack with 74 yards on 10 carries.
Brad Foley carried the ball 14 times for 53 yards on the afternoon. Belhaven receivers were led in yards by
LaMarcus Caradine whose lone reception went for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Fabien Williams had a pair of receptions for 35 yards.
The Belhaven defense was exceptional on Saturday and was led by
Justin Percy with eight total tackles including one for a loss.
Carlton Brown and
Colton Strain each recorded a sack while
David Lewis and
Connor Fordham combined for the other Blazers' sack.
Phazion Locke had an interception for Belhaven in the second half and
Tee Dossett recovered a fumble on special teams.
The Blazers will finish their season next week at Howard Payne as they look to finish the year with a pair of conference wins. Kickoff in Brownwood, Texas is set for 1 PM.
