MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team suffered their first defeat of the season Tuesday night falling in overtime, 93-92, at Rhodes College.
The Blazers opened up the game well outscoring Rhodes 22-15 in the first quarter. After outscoring Rhodes 17-16 in the second quarter, the Blazers took an eight point lead into the half. They would maintain that lead at the end of the third but a late rally by Rhodes including a tying jump shot with eight seconds left would send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Rhodes would jump out to a quick lead and the Blazers would rally back from six points down with 1:49 left to tie the game up but a foul with four seconds left would send Rhodes to the free throw line. Rhodes would make one of the two free throws and win the game.
On the night for Belhaven,
Mariah Collins led the team with 27 points with eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Keke Lyles scored 19 points for the Blazers to go along with nine rebounds.
Belhaven returns to action Tuesday, December 3rd, when they head to Millsaps College to take on the Majors. Tip off is set for 5:30 PM.
