JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University women's basketball team dominated the Ladies of Centenary College by a final score of 106-58 in non-conference play. The Blazers improve to 5-0 on the season for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
The Blazers controlled the game from the opening to tip, going on a 14-3 run through the first five minutes of action. The Green and Gold continued to shoot the ball well making the score 25-16 to close out the first frame. The Ladies and Blazers exchanged buckets, but Belhaven's defense held strong to bring the score to 49-33 at the end of the second quarter.
The Blazers were hot coming out of the break outscoring the Ladies 33-14 in the quarter to bring the score to 82-47 heading into the final quarter. The Green and Gold continued to make buckets to dominate the game to bring the final score to 106-58.
Peyton Papenburg led the Blazers with 30 points, nine steals, and shot 50 percent from the field. Keke Lyles and Janae Collier scored 14 points, while Mariah Collins posted 10 points in the win. Every Blazer that was active in the game tallied a point in the contest.
As a team, the Blazers got in the record book in many different categories following their performance on the court. The Green and Gold finished the game tied for most three pointers in a game, third most attempts, second most assists, tied most steals, and third most points in school history. The Blazers shot 47.4 percent from the field and 75 percent from the charity stripe.
Belhaven will return to the court on Tuesday, November 26 in Memphis, Tenn. against Rhodes College in non-conference play. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
