SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Blazers fell to Sewanee, 89-65, in their road opening contest on Saturday, November 23.
The Blazers battled throughout the first half including cutting a 15 point lead down to single digits, but ultimately trailed 42-32, at halftime. Despite hard-fought efforts by the Blazers, the lead would not be overcome and the Tigers would pull away late in the second half to secure the victory.
Ryan Dupree led the Blazers with 16 points,
Brosnan Cooks added 11 points and led the Blazers in rebounds with eight, while
Luke Couch and
Kelvin Pruitt added ten points each. As a team the Blazers shot 24-for-68 field goals for a percentage of 35.3 including 6-for-30 from three for a percentage of 20.0 and went 11-for-13 from the charity stripe for a percentage of 84.6 percent.
Belhaven scored 34 points in the paint, had 12 points off turnovers, and four fast break points, while the Blazers bench contributed 42 points throughout the contest.
Belhaven returns to action as they host Rhodes College on Tuesday, November 26. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
