JACKSON, Miss. - The Blazers' women's basketball team kicked off their 2019-20 regular season with an 86-82 win over Millsaps College.
The Blazers led 49-46 at the half but had to come from behind late in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.
Belhaven trailed by three points with 2:17 to go in the extra period but went on a 10-3 run in the final two minutes to secure the win.Â
On the night, the Blazers were led by
Peyton Papenburg and
Keke Lyles who both scored 14 points. Papenburg went 3-16 from the field but 8-8 from the free throw line to go along with eight rebounds and three steals. Lyles was 5-15 on the night and 3-11 from three with six rebounds and seven steals.Â
Mariah Collins would record a double-double with 12 points and 12 assists against the Majors.Â
As a team, the Blazers shot 31.1% (28-90) from the field and 22.4% (11-49) from three. Belhaven scored 23 points off of turnovers and got 25 points contributed from the bench.Â
The Blazers next game is Friday, November 15th in Sewanee, Tennessee against Sewanee: The University of the South. Tipoff is set for 6 PM.Â
