RICHARDSON, Texas - The Belhaven Blazers women's soccer team took to the road as they faced off against the UT Dallas Comets on Thursday, October 24. A strong defensive effort paired with a brace from senior forward
Peyton Papenburg lead the Blazers to a 2-0 victory over the Comets.
Papenburg wasted little time in getting the Blazers an early lead as her first goal came just 40 seconds into the match to give the Blazers a 1-0 advantage, which held throughout the half as both teams retired to the locker rooms. The second goal for Papenburg and the Blazers came in the the 66th minute with an assist from freshman forward
Sybil Roberson, while the Blazers defense held strong throughout the remainder of the match to seal the 2-0 win.
The Blazers totaled nine shots throughout the match with four being on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper
Georgia Jordan saved all three shots on goal from the 12 total shots by the Comets during the match.
The road victory for the Blazers is their first American Southwest Conference road victory since a 1-0 shutout over Louisiana College on September 16, 2017, and have now posted back-to-back shutout victories in American Southwest play for the first time in school history.
The Blazers improve to 9-7-1 overall and 4-5-0 in American Southwest Conference play, and will stay on the road for their next game against the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Saturday, October 26, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
