JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University volleyball team was defeated by the Millsaps College Majors in straight sets 3-0 inside Rugg Arena in non-conference play on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Blazers fall to 7-19 overall.
The Blazers were firing on all cylinders as they opened the first set going on a 6-1 run to take the early lead. After a Millsaps timeout, the Majors rallied to even the score up at 9-9. Both teams exchanged the lead for the rest of the set, but Millsaps held on to take the first set 25-20. The Blazers kept it close early until Millsaps pulled away and took the second set by a final score of 25-12. The third set was critical for the Blazers, as they knew this was a must win set. Millsaps took the early 7-3 advantage until Belhaven posted three straight kills. The Blazers kept it close with the Majors but could not gain enough momentum to get the set victory. The Majors won the third set by a final score 25-15 and took the match 3-0.
Callista Moore led the Blazers with eight kills and a block. Chelsea Creighton finished the evening with five kills, while Vivien Marquez tallied four kills. Megan Nobles and Grace Eidson had the only aces for the Blazers. Additionally, Eidson led the Blazers in assists with five. Defensively, Belhaven was led by Kristin Fogan with 10 digs and Evelyn Parker who earned three blocks. As a team, the Blazers posted four blocks compared to Millsaps' three blocks.
The Green and Gold will return to the court for Senior Day on Saturday October 26th against Louisiana College inside Rugg Arena. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. with senior day festivities beginning around 12:30 p.m.
