LONGVIEW, Texas - The Belhaven Blazers were on the road to face off against the LeTorneau YellowJackets on Saturday, October 12, and the Blazers come-from-behind effort fell just short in a 3-2 loss.
The YellowJackets opened the scoring with the only goal in the first half as Kara Gipson squeezed the ball by Blazers sophomore goalkeeper
Georgia Jordan in the 17th minute for an early 1-0 lead which stayed consistent for the YellowJackets throughout the remainder of the first half.
The YellowJackets increased their lead with their first goal in the second half as Skylar Thomassie found the back of the net with an assist from Reagan Sandford, making the lead 2-0 in the 51st minute.
The Blazers first goal came in the 71st minute as junior midfielder
Ashley Langham found the back of the net with a bicycle kick with senior defender
Alex Trammel assisting on the goal and cutting the YellowJackets lead to 2-1; however, the YellowJackets regained their two goal lead in the 74th minute as Riley Blok scored with an assist from Brittany Shipp making the lead 3-1.
The final goal for the Blazers came in the 81st minute as senior defender
Emily Malcom nailed a free kick goal to cut the lead back to one goal, 3-2. Despite heavy pressure in the attacking zone, the Blazers were not able to find an equalizer before the final whistle giving the YellowJackets the 3-2 win.
The Blazers outshot the YellowJackets 17-13 with 11 of the shots on goal, while Jordan faced six shots on goal and made three saves during the contest for the Blazers.
The Blazers fall to 7-6-1 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play and will return to action this Thursday as the play host to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor Cru at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
