JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University women's basketball team were downed by Concordia, 64-53, inside Rugg Arena Saturday afternoon in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tornados jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first five minutes of the first quarter. Within the next three minutes,
Alexis Caldwell and
Kimberly Calhoun made shot to make the score 15-7.
- After multiple opportunities on both sides of the ball, neither team could make a bucket to bring the score to 15-7 at the end of the first quarter.
- The Blazers opened the second frame on a different note, going on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 15-13.
- After a made three-pointer by Kaycie Dunkerley, the Tornados extended their lead to nine with 4:21 remaining until the halftime break.
- The Green and Gold cut the lead to four points, but Concordia held on for the rest of the quarter taking a 32-25 lead into intermission.
- The Tornados came out of the break with a vengeance, as Concordia took their largest lead of the night thus far to make the score 40-30 at the 7:29 mark.
- The Blazers caught a spark in the following possessions going on a 9-0 run the narrow the lead to just one point with 4:32 left in the third quarter.
- The next few possessions baskets were exchanged until a layup by
Destiny Johnson knotted the score up at 43.

Erika Smith put the Blazers ahead after a made free throw at the 1:38 mark of the third period.
- The Tornados made a three-pointer and the Blazers answered with a three-pointer of their own to keep the Green and Gold ahead of the Tornados at the end of the third quarter. The score heading into the final frame was 47-46.
-Belhaven struggled in the fourth quarter as the Blazers were out shot 18-6 in the final frame. The Tornados went on to pick up the 64-53 victory over the Blazers.

KEY STATISTICS
- Nine different Blazers score at least a point during the contest.

Alexis Caldwell led the Blazers registering her second double-double on the season. Caldwell tallied 12 points, 12 rebounds, and one assist.

Lauren Brooks added nine points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Additionally, Brooks shot 67 percent from the field and was perfect from the free throw line.

Kimberly Calhoun had seven points, while
Destiny Johnson and
Peyton Papenburg each posted six points in the game.

Brittany Ford and
Erika Smith both had five points in the contest. Smith was perfect from the field and 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Autumn Covington and
DeQuandra Lyles tallied two points and one point respectively.
- As a team, Belhaven scored 36 points in the paint and 21 points came from the bench. Additionally the lead changed nine times during the game.

The Blazers will remain at home to face off against the University of the Ozarks on Thursday, January 10 in conference action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
