JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University women's basketball team fell to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor Cru 60-38 Thursday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers fell behind early on, as UMHB went on a 13-4 run in the first five minutes of action.
- Belhaven caught an offensive spark and cut the lead to four points at the end of the first quarter. The Blazers trailed 15-11 after the first frame.
- After two made free throws by
Lauren Brooks and a Jumper by
DeQuandra Lyles, the Green and Gold knotted the score up at 15 at the 7:55 mark of the second quarter.
- The Cru gained the momentum of the game and pushed the score to 32-22 at the halftime break.
- UMHB came out of the break going on a 5-0 run, but the Blazers answered with made layups by
Alexis Caldwell and
Peyton Papenburg to bring the score 37-26 with the Cru having the advantage.
- The Cru continued to make buckets and would end the third quarter with a 50-32 lead.
- The Blazers were outscored 10-6 in the final frame and would ultimately fall to the Cru making the final score 60-36.

KEY STATISTICS

Lauren Brooks led the Blazers on the offensive and defensive side of the ball with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Peyton Papenburg also tallied 10 points in the contest and shot 50 percent from behind the arc.

Alexis Caldwell posted six points and shot 50 percent from the field, while
DeQuandra Lyles added five points and had a 66 percent FG percentage.

Kimberly Calhoun and
India Sims each collected three points during the contest.

Erika Smith rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with one point, one assist, and one rebound.
- As a team the Green and Gold shot 50 percent from behind the charity stripe and had 12 points from the bench.

The Blazers will return to the court on Saturday, January 5 in a matchup against Concordia Texas University inside Rugg Arena. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
