HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half – Belhaven controlled just about every facet of the contest from the opening tip, as the Blazers jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead and increased its lead to double digits with a little over five minutes remaining in the half. Belhaven never seized the momentum as they continued to build on its lead, finding themselves ahead 40-26, right at one minute until the break. The Comets gained four of those points back before the halftime buzzer, yet Belhaven still led 44-34 at half.

Second Half– The second half went a little differently for the Green and Gold versus the first half as Belhaven came out and only put up three points in the first nine minutes of the second half. During that stretch, the Comets used a 20-3 run to take its first lead of the game since an opening free throw that gave the Comets a 1-0 lead at the beginning of the game. At the mid-way point, UT Dallas led 54-47. Belhaven slowly began to chop away at the lead, trailing by six points with under two minutes, until a three pointer by Laramie Long and a layup and free throw, by Justin Jones, put Belhaven within one point, 72-71 with a chance to win the ball game with five seconds left. With the clock winding down to the final buzzer, a last second jump shot by Kelvin Pruitt appeared to be just tipped enough to throw the shot off course, as Belhaven was unable to sink the final basket, falling by a final score of 72-71.
