HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter – The Blazers opened the game going on a 15-3 run in the first five minutes of the first quarter. Belhaven could not find a bucket for the rest of the first frame bringing the score to 15-14 at the end of the opening quarter.

Second Quarter – Both teams exchanged buckets in the first three minutes of the second quarter, until Belhaven extended the lead to eight, making the score 30-22 with 3:49 remaining until intermission. The Wildcats closed the first half going on a 9-2 run, but the Blazers held on to the 32-31 advantage going into halftime.

Third Quarter – Belhaven and Louisiana College were scoreless in the first two and a half minutes of action in the second half until LC jumped ahead of the Blazers by five at the 5:21 mark of the third quarter. The Blazers did not give up the next five minutes of the quarter, as the Green and Gold fought back to take the 46-44 lead to head into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter – The Blazers and Wildcats went back and forth, as neither team led more than four points for the opening seven minutes of the final frame.  Lauren Brooks scored with two seconds left on the clock, as the Blazers trailed by one. Belhaven fouled immediately and LC missed both free throws to give the ball back to the Green and Gold. The Blazers got a shot off, but it rolled off of the rim as the Wildcats narrowly beat the Blazers by a score of 63-62.

Despite the loss, Lauren Brooks had a career night going 10-for-13 from the field and scored 23 points while grabbing 20 rebounds. Additionally, Brooks went 75 percent from the charity stripe and posted her sixth double-double on the season.
