BELTON, Texas. - The Belhaven University softball team fell in their series opener at Mary-Hardin Baylor by a score of 8-0 in five innings on Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

The Blazers currently lead 1-0 in game two in the bottom of the fourth. The game was called due to lightning and inclement weather.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game one

- The game started off as a pitcher's dual, as neither team recorded a hit in the first two innings of action.

- UMHB scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third off of an error as they took a 1-0 advantage.

- Belhaven was still searching for its first hit of the contest after four innings of play. The Blazers had a couple of well-placed balls that were hit right to the Mary Hardin-Baylor outfielders.

- The Cru added three more runs in the bottom half of the fourth after a two-RBI single to center field and then an RBI double to left center to push UMHB ahead 4-0.

- UMHB continued the inning with another run off of an RBI single out in the gap. Later on, the Cru would score two more runs off of a wild pitch as they took a commanding 7-0 lead.

- All in all, UMHB scored six runs in the inning and tacked on seven hits.

- Belhaven picked up its first hit of the contest in the top of the fifth off of a leadoff single from Cassidy Blount.

- Mary Hardin-Baylor would win the game in the bottom of the fifth off of a hit-by pitch for an 8-0 victory.

 

Game two

- It was a much better start for the Blazers in the second game as they took a 1-0 lead off of an RBI single to right field from Cassidy Blount in the top of the first.

- The Blazers had more hits in the first inning than they had the entire first game with singles from Meg Garton and Blount.

- UMHB registered its first hit of the game in the bottom of the third, but the Blazers remained out in front 1-0.

- In the bottom of the fourth, the game was delayed due to lightning, and then officially postponed until tomorrow due to inclement weather.

- The game will begin in the bottom of the fourth with game three of the series to follow.

KEY STATISTICS

- Game one

- Cassidy Blount finished 1-2 from the plate with the lone hit for the Blazers.

- Jordan Self pitched 3.2 innings of action and stuck out two batters.

- Mariah Sosa and Lauren Feagin both pitched 0.1 innings of relief.

- Game two 
- Jordan Herring started game two and has pitched 3.1 innings of work with giving up only one hit. 
- Cassidy Blount tacked on another hit and RBI. 
- Meg Garton singled to right field and scored the only run of the game so far.
