JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven men's tennis team picked up two wins on Saturday after defeating Tougaloo College and Centenary College at Parham Bridges. The Green and Gold swept Tougaloo 5-0 and defeated Centenary College 6-1.
In Singles action, Mauricio Gonzalez defeated Burton 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles spot. Tracey Hilaire won at No. 2 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Soler won at No. 3 singles with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory. Yves Ikuno took care of business winning 6-0, 6-0.
In Doubles action,
Joan Soler/Mauricio Gonzalez ended up being the only match that counted in this contest and notched an 8-0 victory.
In the second match against Centenary College, the Blazers only lost one match in the contest. Mauricio Gonzalez/
Joan Soler won at No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Tracey Hilaire/Yves notched an 8-0 victory. The last doubles match of the contest resulted in a no result.
In singles action, Mauricio Gonzalez won easily at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3. Hilaire dropped the No. 2 singles match in a third set tiebreaker falling 5-7, 6-0, 10-4.
Joan Soler won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1. Yves Ikuno took care of business winning 6-1, 6-3.
Owen Taylor won his first match of the year defeating Wanslet 6-2, 6-1.
Belhaven will return to the courts on Monday on the road in a match against the College of Scholastica in Orlando, Fla.
