JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University softball team dropped a close 6-5 decision on Saturday afternoon at Jim McLeod Field against Concordia in American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tornados got off the a quick start after dropping four runs in the top of the first.
- Concordia scored its first two runs off an RBI single out to center field.
- Later on in the inning, Concordia would add two more runs after a double out to left center which made it a 4-0 game.
- Belhaven would get two runs back in the bottom of the first, thanks to a two-run home run from Makayla Reed. Reed notched her fourth homer this season to close the deficit down to 4-2.
- The Blazers found their groove again defensively, as Jordan Self pitched three straight shutout innings, and the Green and Gold were back in business.
- Brianna Dollar registered an RBI single in the bottom of the third to score Marlee Blackwell and make it a one run contest at 4-3.
- The Green and Gold would score two more runs in the inning after Danielle Darmohray hit a two-RBI double out to left field. Both Dollar and Whitney Jemison crossed the plate to put BU ahead 5-4.
- The Blazers were unable to sustain the lead though, because in the top of the fifth, the Tornados would score two runs to regain the advantage at 6-5.
- Meg Garton, Makayla Reed, and Cassidy Blount produced back-to-back-to-back singles to start off the bottom of the seventh.
- Belhaven was setup for a comeback attempt with the bases loaded and nobody out.
- However, the Blazers fell victim to three consecutive infield groundouts which ended the game.

KEY STATISTICS
- Concordia finished with 13 hits as a team, while the Blazers collected eight hits altogether.
- Makayla Reed Finished 2-4 at the plate with a two-RBI home run.
- Meg Garton also recorded two hits in the loss.
- Danielle Darmohray tallied two RBI and a double.
- Marlee Blackwell, Cassidy Blount, and Brianna Dollar each finished with one hit.
- Jordan Self tossed four complete innings inside the circle and struck out two batters.
- Jordan Herring pitched the final three full innings in relief. Herring also retired two batters.
