Blazers Defeat ETBU In Walk Off Fashion

JACKSON, Miss - The Belhaven Baseball team defeated the East Texas Baptist University Tigers Thursday night in walk off fashion, winning by a final score of 7-6 in game one of a three game conference series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- East Texas Baptist jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Casey Combs flew out to centerfield, scoring Dylan Singletary.

- The Blazers answered in the bottom half of the third inning after Colton Fontana tripled to right center field allowing Evan Moore to score from second base, tying the game up at 1-1.

- A Kreg Garner single to right field scored Colton Fontana from third base to give Belhaven the 2-1 advantage. Two batters later, Antoine Watts doubled to right center field which scored Kreg Garner. The run put the green and gold out 3-1 over the Tiger at the end of three.

- The Tigers scored three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined to regain the lead 4-3.

- Belhaven tied the score up at 4-4 in the fifth inning when Will Costinett scored from third on a ground ball from Justin Acevedo.

- With the game tied at 4-4, the Blazers took the lead 5-4 from a Kreg Garner hit up the middle which drove in Colton Fontana.

- Two more runs from ETBU in the eighth inning allowed the Tigers to once again reclaim the lead 6-5.

- Down 6-5, Will Costinett hit a double left field, bringing in the tying run on the hit in the eighth inning.

- In the ninth inning Trip Benson scored on a fielders choice and a close play at the plate, giving the Blazers the 7-6 walk off win over the ETBU Tigers in game one of the series.

KEY STATISTICS

- Five Blazers had a multiple hit ball game. Colton Fontana, Kreg Garner, Will Costinett, Antoine Watts, and Evan Moore each finished 2-for-4 in the game.

- Evan Moore and Colton Fontana scored two runs a piece and Kreg Garner led the team with two RBIs

- The Blazers finished with eleven hits in the contest as a team.

UP NEXT

The Blazers will return to the diamond tomorrow for a double header matchup with the Tigers. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m. with game two to immediately follow.
