Softball Takes Down Agnes Scott For 13th Win in a Row

MACON, Ga. - The Belhaven University softball team recorded another doubleheader sweep on Tuesday afternoon at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. against Agnes Scott College.

Belhaven moves to 15-2 on the season and wins their 13th consecutive contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Game one

- The Blazers got going quickly in the bottom half of the first.

- With the bases loaded, Meg Garton scored on a passed ball for the first run of the game.

- Moments later, Marlee Blackwell connected on an RBI single to score Makayla Reed to make it a 2-0 game.

- Cassidy Blount would score seconds later on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 3-0.

- Still in the first inning, the Blazers were not done yet.

- Danielle Darmohray would bring home Marlee Blackwell, and then Whitney Jemison would also cross the plate on the same play for a 5-0 lead after one inning.

- Agnes Scott would score its only run of the first game in the top of the third off of an RBI double to left center.

- Belhaven would add on to the lead in the bottom of the sixth.

- The Blazers had the bases loaded again, and Kaitlyn Blubaugh drilled a two-RBI single to right field to push the advantage up to 7-1.

- Meg Garton would hit a walk-off two-RBI single in the next at-bat to end the game at 9-1 in six innings.

 

- Game two

- Just like the first contest, the Blazers struck first and held a comfortable advantage.

- The Green and Gold scored two runs in the bottom of the first with a run from Kaitlyn Blubaugh and an infield RBI single from Marlee Blackwell.

- Belhaven scored again in the third for a 3-0 lead after Makayla Reed brought home Brianna Dollar on an RBI sacrifice fly out.  

- In the bottom of the fourth, Belhaven would score two crucial runs. Cassidy Blount's single would bring home both Blubaugh and Garton.

- The Blazers needed just three outs to finish the deal with a 5-0 lead, but the Scotties refused to go away late.

- Agnes Scott had the bases loaded with nobody out, and would score four runs in the next four at-bats to make it just a one run game at 5-4.

- Jordan Herring came into pitch for Jordan Self to record the final out of the game on a strikeout to preserve the victory.

KEY STATISTICS

- Game one

- Jordan Herring tossed her seventh complete game of the year. Herring still remains unbeaten inside the circle this season with a combined record of 7-0.

- Kaitlyn Blubaugh tallied a team-high three hits and also posted two RBI.

- Whitney Jemison and Meg Garton each tabbed two hits apiece. Garton also registered two RBI.

- Belhaven made good use of their hits with 10 total, and stranded just two base runners in the victory.

 

- Game two

- Meg Garton was a perfect 4-4 at the plate in the win. Garton also scored two runs.

- Cassidy Blount finished the afternoon with two RBI.

- Marlee Blackwell, Whitney Jemison, and Kaitlyn Blubaugh each produced two more hits in the second game.

- Jordan Self got the win in the circle to also stay perfect at 7-0.

- Belhaven put together 13 hits in game two.

Belhaven returns home to face ASC opponent UT Tyler for a three-game series beginning on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
