JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven University baseball team won game three of the series against Howard Payne, 12-9, claiming the series two games to one on the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belhaven jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after Evan Moore hit a bases clearing double.
- Three runs in the third inning from the Yellow Jackets tied the score up at 3-3.
- A Trip Benson single to right field allowed Colton Fontana to cross home plate, giving the Blazers a 4-3 advantage in the fourth inning. 
- Will Costinett put a charge into a 3-0 count fastball down the midfield, sending the pitch over the centerfield wall for a grand slam. The grand slam extended Belhaven lead to 8-3.
- Howard Payne added three more runs over the next couple of innings, bringing the ball game to an 8-7 score in the seventh inning.
- Reed Bolton scored off of a double from Josh King in the seventh inning, adding to the Blazers lead, 9-7.
- Evan Moore extended the score to 11-7 with a two RBI single to centerfield, his fifth RBI of the contest.
- A two run home run from Blake Null of Howard Payne cut the Blazers lead to 11-9 in the eighth inning.
- Belhaven added an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth inning to give the Blazers a 12-9 cushion. 
- Belhaven won the series finale by a final score of 12-9 to improve to 5-11 overall and 3-6 in ASC Conference play.

KEY STATISTICS
- Freshman Evan Moore batted 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs in the contest.
- Will Costinett 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs, including a grand slam. The home run was his 4th on the season.
- Trip Benson, Colton Fontana, and Antoine Watts each recorded two hits in the game. Fontana scored three times.
- Hunter Sanford (2-2) picked up the win for the Blazers, his second win of the season.
- The Blazers collected fourteen total hits as a team.
