ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Belhaven University women's basketball team fell by a score of 85-81 to the Louisiana College Wildcats on Monday evening in American Southwest Conference play. Five Blazers scored double-digit figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Alexis Caldwell got the Blazers on the board first with a layup in the opening 1:13 of the game.
- After being tied 6-6 early on,
AaLiyaha Thornton drilled a three-pointer to give the Green and Gold a 9-6 advantage.
- The Wildcats would push ahead 14-11 with 1:47 remaining in the first quarter.
- The Blazers would end the first quarter going on a 9-0 run to bring the score to 20-14.

Brittany Ford drained two three-point baskets to open the second frame to extend the lead by 12 points.
- After a free throw by
Kimberly Calhoun, the Blazers extended their lead to 18 points with 5:30 remaining until halftime.
- LC would then go on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 10 points to make the score 38-28.
- The Green and Gold and the Wildcats would exchange basket to bring the score to 41-29 at halftime.
- The Wildcats would come out of the locker room going on a 10-2 run to bring the score to 43-40 with the Blazers having the three-point advantage.
- It was a back and forth contest for the remaining of the third quarter to make the score 55-53 with the Blazers having a slight advantage.
- At the 7:25 mark, the Green and Gold and the Wildcats were all tied up at 60.
- It was a one point contest until the 3:35 mark when LC pushed ahead to have a three-point lead.
- After a layup by Jonika Walton, LC extended their lead to 8 points to bring the score to 75-68.
- The Blazers did not go down without a fight, going on 7-0 run to end regulation and head into overtime. At the end of regulation, the score was tied 75-75.
- In the overtime period, the Blazers failed to get ahead of the Wildcats to make the final score 85-81.

KEY STATISTICS

Alexis Caldwell led the Blazers with 17 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high six blocks.

AaLiyaha Thornton accumulated 14 points with six assists and three rebounds.

Brittany Ford and
Kimberly Calhoun had 13 points respectively. Ford added two rebounds, one assist, and one steal. She also shot a team-high 4-6 from three-point range.

Lauren Brooks tallied 10 points and nine rebounds, one rebound shy of a double-double. She also shot 50 percent from the floor.

Kayla Smothers had six points in the contest to go along with seven rebounds and one assist.

India Sims and
Kelsey Brown rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with four points apiece.
- As a team, the Blazers shot 53.8 percent from behind the arc and 56.4 percent from the free throw line.
- Belhaven had 32 points in the paint and 23 points from the bench.
