Men’s Basketball Suffers Home Loss to UTD

JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University men's basketball team falls by a score of 98-78 to the University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday afternoon inside Rugg Arena in American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The comets opened up the game going on a 5-0 run until Kelden Pruitt fouled Kyle Patterson Sr in the process of shooting. Patterson went on to make both free-throws to make the score 5-2.

- The Blazers kept up with the Comets fast paced offensive tempo and came within 2 points with 14:25 remaining in the first half.

- UTD would go on a 4-0 run until Rick Hodum drained a three pointer from the corner.

- BU would go cold from the floor, as the comets pushed ahead by 12 points to make the score 31-19 with 7:13 remaining until halftime.

- Just before halftime, Michael Forster fouled Rick Hodum while he was shooting a three pointer. Hodum went on to make all three free throws.

- UTD led BU at halftime by a score of 43-35.

- The Comets came out of the locker room going on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 14 points.

- With 13:50 left in the game, the Blazers cut the lead to 10 points making the score 58-48.

- UTD did not let up off of the gas pedal as they broke away leading by 20 points the largest lead of the game.

- The Blazers could not keep up with the Comets and would eventually fall by a score of 98-78

KEY STATISTICS
- Four Blazers would score double-digit points in the contest.

- Kyle Patterson Sr led the Green and Gold with 16 points. He also led the Blazers in the rebound category with six.

- Jonathan Durham collected 15 points in the contest and two steals. Durham scored all of his points from behind the arc going 5 for eight from three-point range.

- Isiah Brown chipped in 13 points, two rebounds, and four assists in the game.

- Rick Hodum tallied 10 points, four assists, and one steal.

- Terik Richardson had the only block of the game for the Blazers. He also scored eight points.

- Brent Webber and Justin Jones had five points apiece in the contest.

- John Works put up four points while Joshua Roberts rounded up the scoring with two points.

- The Green and Gold shot 87 percent from the charity stripe going 20-for-23.

The Blazers will return to the hardwood on Monday February 5th in Pineville, La. going against the Louisiana College Wildcats. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
