Blazers, Seniors turn to season finale after falling to UT Tyler

JACKSON, MS - The Belhaven Blazers fell to the UT Tyler Patriots on Thursday night by a final score of 94-68 in American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Blazers began the game firing on all cylinders as they held an eleven point lead, 23-12, with 12:58 left in the first half.

- The Patriots would quickly go on a 21-0 run to take the lead 33-23 over the Blazers with 5:36 remaining in the first half.

- At the half, the Blazers would trail 47-28. 

- Midway through the second half, UT Tyler held a comfortable lead, 71-45 and would continue to gain momentum. 

- After forty minutes of play, the Patriots would go on to defeat the Blazers by a final score of 94-68.

KEY STATISTICS

- The green and gold were led by John Works who finished the night with 16 total points. Works also added four rebounds and two assists. 

- Rick Hodum ended with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a perfect 6-6 from the free through line. 

- Seniors, Kyle Patterson Sr. and Terik Richardson had eight points each, respectively. Patterson finished with two assists, three rebounds while Richardson had three assists and four rebounds.

- Isiah Brown was 3-11 from behind the arc on his way to scoring seven points. 

- The Blazers finished with 23 rebounds as a team, 10 offensive, and 13 defensive rebounds. 

- The green and gold shot 34 percent from the field along with scoring 33 points off of the bench.

UP NEXT

The Blazers and the 2017-2018 seniors will close out their season this Saturday when the Blazers host the University of the Ozarks at Rugg Arena for senior day. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
