Seniors cap off careers with victory over Ozarks

JACKSON, MS. - The Belhaven University men's basketball team capped off the 2017-18 season in thrilling fashion as they took down the University of the Ozarks, 98-75, on senior day. The Blazers honored seniors Terik Richardson, Jonathan Durham, David Cole, Kyle Patterson Sr., and Ron Davis in the pre-game senior day ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Blazers began the contest with the hot hand, as seniors David Cole and Jonathan Durham put Belhaven ahead 6-0 with back to back threes

- Belhaven led for the first thirteen minutes without trailing, however with 7:36 remaining in the first half, an Ozark's layup gave the Eagles a 30-29 lead.

- The Ozarks lead lasted less than eight seconds, as senior Terik Richardson drove to the rim and knocked down the layup, putting the Blazers back on top, 31-29.

- The green and gold never looked back, cruising to a 50-42 halftime lead.

- Midway through the second half, the Blazers offense continued to extend the lead with a comfortable fourteen point advantage, 75-61.

- In the final minutes of the contest, Belhaven honored the seniors final game by allowing the seniors to produce eight of the final nine points. 

- Senior David Cole added two three-pointers and senior Terik Richardson knocked down a field goal to close out the Blazers season with a win, 98-75, in their final game in a green and gold jersey.

KEY STATISTICS

- Seven Blazers finished with double-digit points in tonight's victory. 

- Senior, Terik Richardson finished the night with 15 points. Richardson capped off his final game with five assists, five rebounds, and one block. 

- Joshua Roberts was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. He added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

- Another senior, Jonathan Durham, capped off his career tonight with four made three-pointers. The senior from Jackson, Miss. notched 12 points and three assists.

- Isiah Brown, went 4-9 from behind the arc and tied Terik Richardson for a team-high 15 points in the contest. Brown closed the game with six assists and three rebounds.

- Sophomore guard, Justin Jones, was 5-7 from the field and had 13 points. Jones tied a team-high seven rebounds for the game along with Rick Hodum.

- Rick Hodum and Brent Webber each knocked down 10 points, respectively, while Webber produced six assists.

- Senior, David Cole closed out his career a perfect 3-3 from three-point range. Cole had 9 points and two rebounds against the Ozarks tonight. 

- Despite an injury, Kyle Patterson Sr. drew the start in his final game in a green and gold uniform. Patterson played just one possession at the beginning the game, but hobbled onto the court one final time, with one minute remaining in the game, to close out the contest.

- Belhaven finished with 19 three-pointers while shooting 45.2 percent from behind the arc.

- The offense shot 48.3 from the field and ended with 50 points from the bench.
