JACKSON, Miss.– The Belhaven University women's basketball team slipped up against Millsaps College 66-55 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struggled on the offensive side of the ball early on, until
Alexis Caldwell made a driving layup while getting fouled. Caldwell added the free throw to push the score to 3-1 early in the first quarter.
- For the next five minutes, Belhaven scored six points and Millsaps scored eight points to bring the score to 9-9 with 1:55 remaining in the first frame.
- The Blazers closed the first period on top of the majors to make the score 13-11.
- After
India Sims made a layup and a made free throw by
Peyton Papenburg, the Green and Gold jumped to a 16-11 lead over the Majors.
- The Blazers went cold from the floor for the next four minutes, while the Majors went on an 11-0 run to extend their lead to 22-16 with 3:35 until halftime.
- Belhaven did not go down without a fight, cutting the lead to 29-27 going into the break.

Alexis Caldwell tied the ballgame up at 29 to begin the third quarter of play.
- Shots were exchanged by both teams for the majority of the third quarter until the 2:25 mark. The Majors jumped out to a five-point lead to make the score 40-35.
- Millsaps held onto the 43-40 lead to close out the third period.
- Belhaven and Millsaps remained close and were separated by two possessions in the first five minutes of the final quarter to bring the score to 57-51.
- Belhaven struggled from the floor for the rest of the fourth quarter and Millsaps extended their lead to 11 for the largest lead of the game. The Blazers fell to the Majors by a score of 66-55.

KEY STATISTICS
- There were two Blazers to score in double digits during the contest.

Shanda Pugh led the Green and Gold on the offensive side of the ball with 14 points and four assists. Additionally, she shot 5-for-8 from the field and was 50 percent from behind the arc.

Peyton Papenburg was the other Blazer to score in double digits with 10 points and had four rebounds.

Alexis Caldwell was a dominant force under the rim grabbing nine rebounds and one block in the game.

Brittany Ford added six points, while
DeQuandra Lyles tallied five points.
- As a team, Belhaven shot 18-for-28 (64 percent) from the free throw line and scored 24 points in the paint. During the contest, the lead changed 14 times.
