JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University women's basketball team got back to a .500 winning percentage after Belhaven defeated MacMurray College 68-54 in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
- Belhaven set the tone from the beginning using a 17-0 run over a five-minute stretch to take a commanding 21-5 lead over MacMurray, with 3:19 remaining in the first quarter.

- Brittany Ford drilled a three-pointer along with two free throws by Peyton Papenburg to close out the first quarter with a 26-11 advantage.

- The Blazers continued its momentum into the second period, reaching a 20 point lead six minutes into the quarter to bring the score to 37-17.

- The Green and Gold closed out the second quarter on a 7-2 run to make the score 44-19 into the halftime break.

- Belhaven opened the third quarter going on a 7-2 run after a couple free throws made by Lauren Brooks and a three-pointer by Peyton Papenburg. Papenburg also added a layup in transition to bring the score to 51-21 with 7:21 remaining in the third frame.

- At the 6:30 mark, the Blazers jumped out to their largest lead of the contest thus far with a 31 point lead.

- For the next two minutes, the Highlanders went on a 5-0 run to make the score 54-29 with 5:09 left in the third quarter.

- The Blazers then extended their lead to 33 and the largest of the game with 2:01 remaining until the final frame to make the score 62-29.

- MacMurry finished the third quarter going on 6-2 run to bring to bring the score to 64-35 going into the fourth quarter.

- Kimberly Calhoun and Erika Smith were the only Blazers to score in the fourth quarter as Belhaven went cold from the field in the fourth quarter. The Blazers held onto the lead to earn the 68-54 victory over MacMurray College.

KEY STATISTICS
 
- Every active member on the roster earned playing time to get Belhaven back to a .500 winning percentage.

- Two Blazers finish with double-figures in the win over MacMurray.

- Brittany Ford scored 13 points and Peyton Papenburg scored 12 points. Ford added four assists and Papenburg grabbed six rebounds.

- Lauren Brooks had a team-high eight rebounds and was perfect from the charity stripe.

- As a team, the Blazers shot 71 percent from the free throw line and tallied 11 last chance points and score 28 points off of turnovers.

The Blazers will take a break for Christmas and will return to the court at home on Saturday, December 29 for a matchup against Mississippi University for Women Owls. The first tip is set for 2:00 p.m.
