ODESSA, Texas - The Belhaven University men's basketball team fell to the Sul Ross Lobos on Thursday evening by a final score of 101-86 in conference play.
With the loss, Belhaven slipped to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead in the first half of play with the aid of two trips to the free throw line and three field goals from Justin Jones, Brosnan Cooks, and Laramie Long.
- Sul Ross hit a 7-0 run to take a 9-8 lead over Belhaven over the next fifty seconds before both teams began a stretch of exchanging leads. 
- With 9:56 remaining until the break, Sul Ross held a slight two-point advantage, 22-20.
- The Lobos led for six straight minutes, with a lead of six points nearing the half, however, the Green and Gold cut the Lobo lead down, eventually taking a one-point lead with five minutes left, 33-32.
- Down two, Justin Jones executed a layup to tie the game up at 45-45 with 2:09 left on the clock.
- Belhaven and Sul Ross entered halftime tied up at 45-45.
- For the first seven minutes of the second half, both the Blazers and Lobos played within a one-possession advantage of each other. The Lobos ended up finding some momentum around the eleven-minute mark, extending its lead to nine points, 73-64.
- Belhaven fell behind 94-81 with 3:09 left in the contest. Unfortunately, the Blazers could not mount a comeback, falling to the Lobos 101-86.

KEY STATISTICS
- Five Blazers scored double-digit points including John Works (20), Joseph Jones (17), Justin Jones (16), and Brosnan Cooks (10). Jonathan Durham had nine points in the contest.
- Works led Belhaven in points as well as tying for the team-high in rebounds with five along with Brosnan Cooks. Joseph Jones led the Blazers with three steals on the night. 
- Justin Jones put up a team-high four assists and had two steals. 
- As a team, Belhaven was 26-of-58 (44.8%) from the field, 7-of-16 (43.8%) in three-pointers, and 27-of-39 (69.2%) from the free throw line.
- Additionally, Belhaven had 38 points in the paint and 18 points from the bench.
