BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Belhaven University men's basketball team cruised to a twelve point, 74-62, victory over the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon in ASC play.
With the win, Belhaven improved to 3-5 overall and picked up its first ASC victory of the season to move to 1-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Howard Payne looked to be control from the beginning of the game as they reached a 9-2 lead five minutes into the start of the contest.
- Belhaven trimmed the Yellow Jacket lead to 16-15 before getting a momentum shifting steal and dunk from Tommy McCoy to give Belhaven its second lead, 17-16, with 8:26 left until the half.
- A 10-0 run put Belhaven up 22-16, yet Howard Payne worked themselves back to within just one point at 26-25 with just under two minutes remaining until the break.
- The Green and Gold took a 29-27 lead into halftime.
- Howard Payne regained the lead, stretching the advantage out to six points, 41-35 just five minutes into the start of the second half.
- The back and forth game continued as Belhaven once again went on a run and with 8:52 left, held a 53-47 lead.
- Laramie Long drained a three pointer to give the Blazers a double digit, 64-54, lead with five minutes to go in regulation.
- Belhaven reached its biggest lead of the night after a Rick Hodum three pointer found the basketball to give the Green and Gold a seventeen point lead, 74-57.
- The Blazers cruised to a 74-62 victory over the Yellow Jackets, improving to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

KEY STATISTICS
- Rick Hodum led Belhaven with 17 points and was 5-of-10 from three point land on the night.
- Laramie Long was 4-of-8 on the night with 13 points while Brosnan Cooks finished with 10 points and a team high 7 rebounds.
- Additionally, Kelvin Pruitt and Justin Jones had 9 and 8 points, respectively.
- As a team, Belhaven was 26-of-59 (44.1%) from the field.
- They also added 52 points from the bench and 28 points in the paint.
