ABILENE, Texas - The Belhaven University men's basketball team fell 105-100 in double overtime Thursday night to the McMurry Warhawks to begin American Southwest Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warhawks controlled the scoreboard for the first fourteen minutes of the game, stretching it's lead out to 29-20 with 6:13 remaining up the half.
- Belhaven quickly picked up momentum, going on a 12-2 run and taking a one point lead 32-31 after Laramie Long drilled a 3-pointer to give the Blazers their first lead of the game since the 18:19 mark in the first period.
- In the final seconds of the first half, Belhaven trailed 40-38 before Brosnan Cooks nailed a layup to tie the game up at 40-40. The Blazers entered the half tied 40-40 with the Warhawks.
- Both teams exchanged leads throughout the second half. With 9:09 left in the game, both teams were knotted up at 61-61
- In the final minute of play, tied at 77-77, Colin Taylor for McMurry put the Warhawks ahead 79-77 with back to back free throws.
- Brosnan Cooks tied up the score at 79-79 on a layup in the paint, with 36-seconds remaining. Moments later, Zacc Carter nailed a jumper and drained a free throw to give McMurry an 82-79 lead.
- Down to its final possession, Belhaven's Rick Hodum hit a 3-pointer to tie the game up at 82-82 with 3-seconds remaining in the game.
- The Blazers and Warhawks ended regulation knotted up at 82-82 and would need overtime to decide the contest.
- Neither team could separate themselves from the other team by more than three points throughout the first overtime period. McMurry led 91-88 with just over a minute left in the period.
- Once again a three-pointer with seconds remaining in play helped aid the Blazers, this time from Laramie Long to tie the game up at 91-91 and force a second overtime period.
- The Warhawks, quickly jumped out in front of Belhaven in the second overtime period. Belhaven tied the game back up at 96-96 with 2:42 remaining in play, however, McMurry finished the period outscoring the Blazers 14-9 to defeat the Green and Gold 105-100.
- With the loss, Belhaven fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 to begin ASC play.

KEY STATISTICS
- Three Blazers finished with 20+ points in the contest. Brosnan Cooks led all Blazers with 25 points. Rick Hodum and Laramie Long each finished with 20 points in the contest.
- Cooks also ended the game 10-of-15 from the field, 1-of-3 from 3-point range while finishing with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal.
- Long had a team-high 9 rebounds along with a team-high 3 steals. Long was 3-of-4 from 3-point range and 9-of-14 from the free throw line. Hodum was 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range.
- Additionally, Joseph Jones had 11 points while Tommy McCoy and Joshua Roberts had 8 points each.
- As a team, Belhaven finished with 40 rebounds, 44 points in the paint, and shot 49.3 percent from the field (34-of-69).

Belhaven will remain in Abilene, Texas to take on Hardin-Simmons this Saturday in ASC play. The game will tip-off beginning at 3:00 p.m.
