COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Belhaven University volleyball team recorded a 3-0 sweep (27-25, 25-10, 25-14) on the road at MUW on Tuesday evening in non-conference play.

With the win, the Blazers get back to over .500 on the year, and improve to 9-8 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Blazers had themselves a challenge early on in the opening set of play on the road.  

- After building a 7-3 lead, MUW climbed back and tied things up. Later on in the set, the score remained even at 17.

- A handling error on BU put the Owls ahead momentarily at 23-22, but the Blazers would win the next two points off of a kill and an error.

- Belhaven won the final two points of the first set on attacking errors to win the set 27-25 and take a 1-0 lead.

- The Green and Gold made quick work of MUW in the second and thirds sets.

-  After the set was tied at 8-8 in the second, the Blazers dominated the match.

- There was little drama, as Belhaven immediately opened up the lead at 18-9 after winning 10 out of the next 11 points.

- Belhaven gave up just one more point throughout the set, and a kill from Callista Moore finished the set at 25-10 in favor of BU.

- In the third and final set, Belhaven won the first nine points.

- MUW would rally and cut the deficit down to two at 12-10 later on.

- However, the Blazers caught fire again and won eight out of the nine next points to hold a comfortable 20-11 lead.

- The match was concluded after a service error and attacking error were committed on the Owls to end the set at 25-14.

KEY STATISTICS

- Belhaven posted a .205 hitting percentage throughout the course of the contest, and also produced 22 kills as a team.

- MUW committed 24 attacking errors in match.

- The Blazers tacked on 11 service aces and 10 total blocks at the net.

- Ryan Hardin finished the match with a .462 hitting percentage and recorded seven kills and three block assists.

- Callista Moore added three kills with a team-high five total blocks.

- Evelyn Parker collected three kills as well and also added a solo block and two block assists.

- Sydney McEachern led the Blazers with eight digs.

UP NEXT

Belhaven will return to action on Friday Oct. 5 at ETBU in Marshall, Texas. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Blazers dropped their first meeting of the year with the Tigers at home in straight sets.
